JRC Long-term Care Resident Life and Activities

We believe the opportunity to socialize and participate in stimulating activities contributes significantly to overall health and quality of life.  At the JRC we provide a wide range of activities, entertainment, social outings, and programs that reflect our residents’ interests:

  • Outings include lunch at local restaurants, trips to the movies or for ice cream, and walks on the beach
  • Art therapy
  • Therapeutic movement and music. Movement utilizes musical instruments, scarves, or other familiar items to enhance exercise
  • Activities such as bingo, sing-a-longs, trivia games, and discussions on current events
  • Language groups
  • Resident council. For those who enjoy being proactive, this is an opportunity for residents to meet monthly with department heads to discuss various aspects of the JRC’s community and activities
  • Spiritual services and programs. We offer visits by rabbis who teach bible study during afternoons and conduct Shabbat services every week. It is our mission to meet the spiritual needs of all patients and we provide visits and services by Christian clergy as well
  • Intergenerational programs
  • Support groups
  • Volunteer interaction. Community volunteers come into the JRC to provide companionship for residents by visiting, knitting, and playing board games and cards
  • Pet therapy. Pets on a leash are allowed for visits in residents’ rooms and common areas. We have found that residents respond very well to visiting with their own pets or other others that are brought in y volunteers
  • Holiday celebrations

Our many amenities bring comfort and convenience to our residents. Here are some examples:

  • Coffee at Mattie’s - This is a cozy spot for socializing with other residents and families
  • Family Rooms - We offer plenty of spacious and comfortable seating areas throughout the JRC
  • The Gift Shop provides a broad array of gift items for the convenience of friends and family. Hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 4 p.m.
  • Great-grand KIDSPOT, where residents can enjoy their young visitors in an environment created especially for them
