Q. What communities does the day center serve?
A. The day center serves all the of North Shore area including Swampscott, Marblehead, Lynn, Salem, Saugus, Lynnfield, Peabody, Danvers, Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, Malden and Melrose. Other communities are always considered, depending on transportation availability.
Q. How is transportation arranged?
A. The day center contracts with a transportation company for wheelchair and ambulatory transportation. However, many families provide their own transportation, and arrangements can also be made through THE RIDE and other community options.
Q. How is payment arranged?
A. Payment is private. Third party payment is accepted through Mass Health, Greater Lynn Senior Services, North Shore Elder Services, Chelsea Revere Winthrop Elder Services or Mystic Valley Elder Services. Some long-term insurance plans may cover the cost of adult day health services.
Q. What does payment include?
A. The daily fee includes all meals, medication assistance, nursing monitoring, assistance with activities of daily living (dining, bathroom assistance, and cueing), extensive activity programming, and social service support. Showers can be arranged at an additional cost.
Q. Is outside space provided?
A. The day center offers an attractive outdoor patio area available for the exclusive use of its participants. The patio is completely enclosed for security purposes. Clients enjoy the many different flowers and plants throughout our raised bed gardens. Planting and tending to the gardens, in fact, are among the many diverse activities offered through our programs.
Q. Are there other services offered at the day center?
A. Physical, occupational and speech therapy are provided in a state-of the-art gym by a highly-skilled team of therapists, per physician order. Those who have recently been discharged from short-term therapy can continue their progress on an outpatient basis while attending the day program. Lab and podiatry services are also provided. A hairdresser is conveniently located on the premises.
Q. What services are available for those participants with memory loss?
A. The entire staff is trained through the Alzheimer’s Association. Whether it’s a physician or nurse administering medical attention, a rehabilitation therapist working with a client in the gym, or an activities staff member leading a program, each professional has experience in encouraging a client’s sense of well being and independence. Special attention has been given to enhancing the environment with pleasant colors and lighting, and a security system is in place to prevent wandering. A monthly caregiver support group is available to help families cope with their roles.
Q. What are the credentials and background of the team members?
A. The day center staff is comprised of RNs, LPNs, Certified Nursing Assistants, Social Workers and Activity Staff. Staffing ratios are based on the level of care that our participants require. For basic needs, a 6:1 ratio is provided. For those with more complex needs, a 4:1 ratio is provided.
Q. What are the hours of operation?
A. Most of the participants come for a six-hour day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. We recognize that many family members are working caregivers, therefore an extended option is available. Clients can come as early as 7:30 a.m. and stay until 5:30 p.m. On Friday, the center closes at 3:30 p.m. Our extended hours are also designed to accommodate the individual needs of our participants. Those who are early or late risers can design program hours based on their lifestyle.
